Sousa,Bernadete Maria de; Cruz,Carlos Alberto Gonçalves da; Carvalho,Rose Marie Hoffmann de; Silva,Maria Nei da.
A specimen of Enyalius perditus Jackson, 1978 collected in a pitfall trap installed at the Parque Estadual do Ibitipoca, Municipality of Lima Duarte, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil, on 19 March 1997, showed a transversal rupture of the skin, on dorsum of posterior region of the head, just joining the ear openings. In captivity, the continuance of the shedding scain spent approxima-tely one hour and forty minutes. The pieces of skin were removed in the sequence: head, venter, arms and flanks, legs, tail, and finally the tip of the fingers. The removed skin was eaten at the end of each stage.

TEIXEIRA,R. L.; GIOVANELLI,M..

Freire,Eliza Maria Xavier.
An inventory of the fauna of lizards was made in the dunes of Natal (Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil) and in the "restingas" (sandbanks with its associated vegetation) of Ponta de Campina (Cabedelo, Paraíba, Brazil) from October/84 to March/86. The objective was to know the composition and structure of these communities as well as to evaluate the zoogeographical importance of the spots. The samples were collected and the observations were made along of transects which were established to enable the sampling of the habitats under study in both areas. Each transect was crossed one day per month, during 14 months. The collect of lizards was made manually or through the use of a small gun, calibre 22, with ammunition of the type mustard lead. Observations were...

Rediscovery of a forgotten snake in an unexpected place and remarks on a small herpetological collection from southeastern Brazil Naturalis
Hoogmoed, M.S..
A collection of snakes and frogs collected in the area of Porto Real, Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, was bought in December 1890 and remained unidentified until now. The collection comprises 100 snakes belonging to 18 species and 152 frogs belonging to 19 species. A comparison with the herpetofauna from nearby Serra do Japi in São Paulo is made. General remarks on variation and identification are made for a number of species. Among the snakes were two specimens of Cercophis aurata (Schlegel, 1837), a species described on the basis of one specimen from Suriname, and no new specimens having been recorded until now. The new individuals cause the known area of distribution to be greatly enlarged, but such a large distribution area occurs in several other snakes...

Sexual dimorphism in Liolaemus occipitalis (Iguania, Tropiduridae) Iheringia, Sér. Zool.
Verrastro,Laura.
The sexual dimorphism in size, morphology and color of the lizard Liolaemus occipitalis Boulenger, 1885 was studied. Thirty-two adult males and twenty-eight adult females were sampled from a population in the Jardim do Éden beach, near Tramandaí, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Size related sexual dimorphism occurred in all compared body dimensions. The largest female was 59.6 mm in snout-vent length, and the largest male was 69.3 mm. Males and females also presented differences in ventral and dorsal color pattern, and in the presence of pre-cloacal pores. The results suggest that, in Liolaemus occipitalis, sexual dimorphism in size is determined by sexual selection, competition between males and by the high energetic cost for females a few months after hatching.

The contribution of Andreas Mayer for the natural history of the State of Paraná, Brazil: V. Reptiles: relevant addenda and corrigenda BABT
Bérnils,Renato Silveira; Moura-Leite,Julio Cesar de.
A study about the herpetological legacy of the German naturalist Andreas Mayer (1907-1986) (Bérnils & Moura-Leite, 1990) raised 83 specimens from 20 reptile species captured in the Brazilian states of Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul (years 40, 50, and 60) and currently housed at the Museu de História Natural Capão da Imbuia (Curitiba). Just in Mayer's birth centenary, 15 more snakes collected by him and not presented in the former publication were founded. This material is relevant because (1) came from areas currently under human-altered environments; (2) was collected in areas that were poorly sampled at that time; and (3) embraced some species hard to find in Paraná, including the first occurrence of Phimophis cf. guerini for the state. Label data...

Silva,R.J.; Kohlsdorf,T..
